160 km south of Mumbai is the impregnable island fortress of janjira. The 16th century capital of Siddis. One of Maharashtra's most impressive coastal forts. Janira fort belong to the Nawab of Janjira & could not conquered in more than 300 years. It is located along an island a short distance off the peaceful fishing town of Murad. Other attractions include Dattatraya Temple, 1 km away. The 'murti' has three heads reperesenting Brahma, Vishu and Maheshwara. The view from top of the temple is quite spectacular. Garambi lake: A 100 year old tank that supplies water to the townships. A few kms away are the two beautiful beaches of Nandgaon and Kashid.
